Benelli lift- scar treatment? (Photo)

The Benelli lift is a procedure where excess skin of a drooping breast is taken out and gathered around the areola.  A permanent pursestring suture is then placed to keep tension on the areola to prevent unwanted spreading.  This is done in situations where there is enough excess skin that a standard procedure would require a vertical lower pole scar to remove it.  Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for patients to experience areola deformities.  These include stretch, elongation, puckering, herniation or uncomfortable band like scars.  For this reason, I almost always try to discourage patients from the Benelli lift in most circumstances.  With a standard lift, the vertical scar will fade with time, getting better and better.  Frequently, the areola issues with a Benelli lift can actually get worse over time.

Sometimes as time goes by that scar will settle down, but frankly, this is one of the limitations of the Benelli procedure.  It's as if the breast tissue is being pushed through the pursestring suture that was used to do the lift (that's the permanent stitch that goes around the areola).The scars themselves can be treated with silicone gel, but the nipple protrusion may be something you need to get used to.  Like I said, it may settle some more with time, but it may not.  The procedure looks like it was done well, by the way - this is nice work.  It's just how the operation works.Good Luck!

I think you are asking about the scar around your areola and at this stage all looks fine. Certainly massage will help and I would ask your PS about further scar management therapies.
