Why are the breast lift scar so jagged + big? (photo)

Question

This is one year post op, so everything is healed. Why are the scars so severe and big. The scars are also very jagged. I followed all post op instructions. It is depressing and horrific to look at. Biggest mistake I've ever made.

It appears your scars have widened and are also darker than the surrounding skin.  An ideal scar is a thin, flat line that matches the color of the surrounding skin.  There are many reasons why scars may not heal in an ideal manner.  These reasons include your genetics, skin type, post-op care, surgical technique, etc.A scar revision might be a good option for you to consider.  A scar revision will never make the scars disappear completely but is usually effective in making the appearance of the scars more acceptable.  Visit with some board certified plastic surgeons in your area to review your options. There are multiple factors that go into a scar healing process-- your own body's healing capacity, environment, incision site tension, suture material,etc.. At this point you can consult with your Surgeon re/scar revision

The scars can be quite visible for different reasons, from genetic predisposition to prominent scars to reaction to the suture material, delayed healing or tension.My advice would be to ask a follow up with your plastic surgeon to explore the possibility of a scar revision.Although scars never disappear, I am confident that they could be improved.Best of luck.Andrea Marando

I am so sorry that you are unhappy with your scars. Have you spoken either with your surgeon or another board certified plastic surgeon in your area about scar revision options? At the very least, you may want to try some IPL sessions to see if it can make the vertical scar less noticeable. My best,

dear, thanks for your question and provided information as well.. I have to say
that you are still early on healing process, it is too soon to determine how
your results are going to be, per now, they look very nice and beautiful, you
can have one bigger than the other, it is normal and that can happen for the
first 3 months until your implants have settle in. I recommend you to wait and
keep using your post surgical bra, that will help you with the shape and
support. After 21 days of your surgery, you can put silicone sheets and also rose hip oil, Hugs!

There are many factors that I have seen that contribute to scar widening.  Hormonal issues, skin quality, age and development of the patient (younger patients seem to be more prone to this problem) , weight fluctuations, steroid use, etc.  Suture selection and surgical technique are probably the least important factors, believe it or not. Scar revision if undertaken should focus on off-loading tension with internal and external systems and perhaps not doing the surgery near the time of your period.  If you are on steroids or have underlying adrenal issues this must also be addressed

Thanks for the pictures. It looks like you had some widening of the breast lift incision which can sometimes happen.  Given its already been a year, I do not believe they will improve on their own.  If it bothers you this much, then inquire about a scar revision.  While it won't eliminate them completely, you should get a good improvement.
