43 years old- Would liposuction work to improve my contour, or should I get a tummy tuck? (Photos)

Question

I’m a 43 year old mother of one. I had my child in my mid-20s, and gained 25 pounds with the pregnancy. I am very physically active through a combination of strength and spinning.I have belly fat and underarm fat that I want to get rid of. I’m a healthy weight for my height, but still about 7 pounds from my personal “happy weight”. Would lipo work to improve contour, allow me to wear bikinis and tank top more confidently, or should I get a tummy tuck? I don’t want the hip to hip scar.

Liposuction will contour the back, waist and underarm fat areas. In the abdominal area lipo can also be done, but the skin excess and laxity must be concerned. Here, a mini tummy tuck operation will provide a tighter appearence. Lipo can be done in a more modest way to prevent skin sagging or shrinking in the abdominal area. Although pictures help, final decision must be made up on physical examination.

Given your history of pregnancy, it can be presumed that your skin elasticity has been compromised. The appearance of your belly button also hints at this too: it is becoming slit shaped. Nothing can compare to liposuction and a tummy tuck done well (progressive tension sutures, and ultra low incision), in fact it is nearly flawless and many women state that their result is better than their belly ever appeared. However, if you are scar phobic (which I state time and again is not founded in reality when the procedure is done by an expert), you can chose liposuction alone or with J Plasma. The results will be far from a tummy tuck, but it may be sufficient for you. If not, then the tummy tuck is your back up.

This is a very common question. It looks like you have some abdominal muscle laxity which happens after pregnancy. However, you have nice skin quality and what appears to be focal fat. I think you could go either way based on your photos, considering the pros and cons of lipo v tummy tuck to lead you to your chosen procedure.

If you are wanting to avoid a tummy tuck it does appear that you will have improvement from liposuction.  You may want to add J Plasma for some skin tightening with the procedure.  See a board certified plastic surgeon near you to learn more.
