1 year post-op- Had Liposuction and skin extraction and was left with hard lump/bulge.Any idea what this could be?

I had liposuction and skin extraction a year ago and I am left with this hard lump in my lower belly. It is more prominent when I stand, but when I sit down I am not able to feel it. I only feel the hard lump when I am standing and when sitting I don’t feel it at all. Any idea what this could be? I am really concerned and afraid it could be something serious! Could something have gone wrong? Pls help!

Hi Graceful, it sounds like an area of fat necrosis or scar tissue, but it could be a weakness in the muscles if you had an abdominoplasty/diastasis repair as well. The best answer will be from getting examined by a board-certified plastic surgeon asap, especially if it’s painful. Good luck!

It's best to return to your surgeon for an evaluation.  She/He is most familiar with the details of your case and how you've been progressing through recovery.  It's a possibility it could be fat necrosis, a pocket of fat, or something else.

You need to do a virtual consultation with a high definition liposuction revision specialist so that your lump can be diagnosed. It could be residual fat, a seroma, or a pseudocapsule that forms around the seroma.

I don’t know what skin extraction means.

If you don’t have axis to the surgeon who did your liposuction then schedule in person second opinion consultations with other local board certified plastic surgeons.
