Bad bruising and blood in eye post-under eye-trough Voluma HA filler? (Photo)

Dear So103,I am sorry you are having difficulty with your Voluma filler. Bruising is normal after injections in the undereye area as this skin is very thin and there are a lot of veins. I would recommend using a cannula in the future to reduce the bruising. In the meantime, continue to use arnica and keep your head elevated.The bleeding in your eye which is called a subconjunctival hemorrhage is not related to the injections. I would discuss this with your doctor and it is not a serious medical condition. Best regards,Nima Shemirani 

I suggest seeing your physician thi can be improved with vbeam, yellow laser, aerolase or excel v laser.  but typically this can take 2-3 weeks to resolve and is a normal expected complication of needles to the eyes.  Consider cannula injections next time.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Thank you for sharing your questions and photograph and I am sorry to see the significant bruising that has developed after your undereye treatment.  The undereyes are very thin skin with lots of veins and as a result is prone to this type of bruising, especially when needles are used.  Though this will improve given enough time I would help speed resolution with the use of warm compresses, arnica/bromelain supplementation, head elevation, and a diet of dark leafy green vegetables.  Hang in there.

The under eye area is probably one of the most sensitive on the face so bruising not atypical. However, the bruise in the eye is not normal. Make an appointment to see your surgeon to be examined in person. 

It is very normal to have bruising under the eyes after an injection. The are is particularly sensitive. However, not typical to have bruising in the eye. Make an appointment with your surgeon to have this assessed in person. Probably nothing to worry about but always best to be safe.

used to enhance the appearance of the face. Bruising can occur with any injection and is more common in the tear trough. They usually resolve on their own in 1-2 weeks. In our office we treat bruises with a laser as early as the next day which makes them resolve faster. Please

Thank you for your question and for submitting your photo.  While swelling and bruising are common side effects after filler injections to the tear troughs, bleeding into the eye itself (also known as a subconjunctival hemorrhage) is not typical, even when needles are used.  I would recommend following up with your physician to discuss your concerns and for a formal assessment.  She may be able to treat some of your bruising with a laser to help it fade faster.  I hope you feel better soon.

The under eye area is basically skin on bone. Its very easy to bruise in that area and even the most experienced injectors can cause bruising. It doesn't mean your doctor did a poor job. Anyone, anytime can bruise. Just let your doctor know and within a few days the bruising should resolve. Its OK to cover it with makeup

Voluma is probably not the best choice as an under eye filler.  It is a great filler but not meant for under the eyes.  I would consult a specialist in under eye fillers and use Belotero, or Volbella, or Restylane next time.
