I have Voluma in my tear troughs, cheeks, upper eyelids and nose.
Answer: About every 6 mos I get a sinus infection and the Voluma in my face swells (twice requiring steroids). Is this normal? Thank you for sharing your question. Because the swelling occurs only with sinus infections it is likely that the irritation is causing swelling to your facial tissues in general. If the swelling is only over the areas of Voluma treatment I would discuss this with your injector. Hope this helps.

Answer: Sinus infection & Swelling The swelling is due to the sinus infection, not the Voluma. If you haven't already, see an ENT to get to the bottom of what is causing the recurring infection in your sinuses.

Answer: Sinus infection causing the swelling It sounds as if the sinus infection is causing swelling in the tissues. Not the Voluma. The best treatment would be to find ways to prevent the sinus infection. Have you seen an allergist? I am sorry that you are experiencing this. It is a pain. Literally.

Answer: Voluma and Swelling It sounds like the swelling is from your sinus infection and the tissue that is affected. I would discuss this matter with your physician for the future but it is not directly as a result of the Voluma. Best, Dr. Green

Answer: Delayed swelling after Voluma Thank you for your question and for submitting your photos. It's difficult to make exact recommendations without assessing you in-person. That said, generally speaking, the superficial tissue in the tear troughs has relatively poor lymphatic drainage. If too much filler is injected superficially into the tear troughs, it can further block lymphatic drainage in the area, particularly if a relatively firm product (like Radiesse, Restylane Lyft, undiluted Restylane, or Voluma) is used. This blockage is often exacerbated during illnesses, allergy flares, etc, resulting in swelling (also known as malar edema). Unfortunately, the only way to treat malar edema is to either dissolve the filler in the tear troughs with hyaluronidase, or to allow your body to absorb it on its own. I would recommend scheduling a consultation with a cosmetic dermatologist or plastic surgeon to discuss your concerns and to determine the best treatment plan for you. Best of luck!
