What are the chances of a nipple dying and falling off following breast lift and areola reduction surgery?

Thank you for your question. If you are otherwise healthy, do not smoke, have had no prior surgeries to your breast, and do not require a very large reduction, then you should be fine. Depending on the amount of lift, the surgeon's experience, and techniques, your chance of losing a nipple or areola is likely less than 1%. This number goes up if you have had prior surgeries, are adding an implant, have someone who is not well trained performing your surgery. Typically, if anything were to happen to the nipple / areola, it wouldn't fall off - it would likely simply de-pigment a bit (in extreme cases, you can lose a nipple / areola, but there are usually extenuating circumstances).  I would suggest having an in-person consultation with a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon to help put your mind at ease. surgery.  Fortunately, this is a very small risk, in my experience generally
less than 1%, and is higher in people who have other health issues such as
patients who smoke.  Be sure and discuss with your board-certified plastic

The risk is extremely low. Almost zero. Most surgeons say they have 1 nipple death in 10 years of practice. I've never had one. Smoking is the greatest risk. All the best!
