There is a very visible vein crossing through my breast that you can see through the skin of the areola. I don't know if this question may seem stupid but I just want to make sure that this still allows me to be a candidate for a breast lift and areola reduction because I am in the process of losing a large amount of weight and my breasts are already sagging. I picture a scalpel cutting through the skin directly into the vein which could just be paranoia but it also doesn't seem safe

Answer: Breast lift/reduction Hello and thank you for your question. The veins will not cause a problem during your breast lift/reduction. This is very common. This can be designed to result in an improved shape and contour of your breasts while minimizing scar appearance. Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results. The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person. Best wishes and good luck. Richard G. Reish, M.D. Harvard-trained plastic surgeon
