My tummy feels tight 'almost 'concrete' -like after sitting inna chair - I am 6 weeks post tummy tuck. I find walking the most pleasant but even lying down my tummy can seem v hard when I get up. Why is this - it makes sitting the opposite of relaxing ! Thanks,
Answer: Tightness when sitting I believe it's because at this point in healing you're still swollen and can still at times not vertical, become more swollen. I think that is what may be causing your tightness. Give it some more time and I think you'll feel much better.Thank you for your question.Melinda Lacerna, MD FACS

Answer: It is within normal range It is not unusual to feel tightness 6 weeks after surgery. There is nothing to worry. You do not need to do anything special. Be patient.

Answer: Tight tummy after tucking Hi listowelAfter 6 weeks, you should be cleared for all activity, however that clearance can only come from your doctor. I think you have a combination of residual spasm and muscle shortening. When cleared by your doctor, I suggest you try arching your back over one of those large exercise balls. You can also hang from a chin up bar to stretch out. Either way, if ok with your doctor, do this two or three times a day, and hold the stretches about 30 sec.

Answer: I have tightness when sitting 6 weeks post Tummy tuck. You are very early in the healing process at this point. Healing from surgery will take time. In the initial phase after surgery, within the first three months, there is a period of inflammation and scarring that must occur in order for you to heal. During this time your tissues will swell and feel hard like "concrete". Over ensuing months these processes will subside and the inflammatory process gives way to scar softening and remodeling. It is during this time that you will start to see your results appear and the tightness and firmness subside. I tell my patients that they will not see their final results for at least to 6 months. I would suggest you continue walking, these sensations should continue to improve with time.Best wishes.

Answer: I have tightness when sitting 6 weeks post Tummy tuck. Any suggestions? This situation is common after a tummy tuck especially when liposuction is used as well. The hardness comes from fibrosis due to the liposuction and the tightness comes from muscle shortening and muscle cramps. After clearance is given for normal activity it is good to stretch the abdominal muscles using a chinning bar or by extending the back over a large exercise ball.
