How successful is Botox in the treatment of Strabismus?

Hello and thank you for your question. Botox is a great treatment but the results vary from patient to patient. I believe that Botox for strabismus is a multi-treatment job and one injection alone would not be sufficient. Consult with your doctor to find out if it is the best treatment option for you. 

Botox has been FDA approved to treat strabismus since the 1980's. I do not do these injections, but I understand the injections are not easy to perform and the results are usually fair and last for about 4 months. Pediatric ophthalmologist most commonly perform these injections. I would see a specialist to review all your treatment options

 One of the early uses for Botox was for paralytic strabismus. This is really the only form of strabismus that Botox is useful for. When used, it would still need to be repeated every 3-4 months. You ned to consult a Strabismus specialist who are usually Pediatric Ophthalmologists.

Botox has been used in strabismus for many years and very successfully. However, it requires intermittent injections due to its temporary effect. With appropriate precautions the injections are not painful. Good luck!
