Stitch abscess... is this common? 3 months post-op.

This does happen from time to time. You seem to be under the right treatment for it. Continue your treatment with your plastic surgeon.

Occasionally stitch abscesses do occur. Usually they are treated with a small procedure in the office and then local wound care. Antibiotics may be needed sometimes as well. Close follow up with the surgeon to monitor wound healing is needed to ensure the best result. It may take a few weeks for everything to resolve and heal up in my experience.

Hello!Deep sutures may become inflamed up to 3 months out from surgery. You also may have had some focal fluid retention. Antibiotics and topical care is typically all you need. You should be able to proceed with physical activities. Make sure you eat a healthy nutritious diet and hydrate well.Happy New Year!

They can occur and are due to the natural process of absorption of the deeper stitches. If there is an exposed part of the stich then the best way to treat it is to remove the stich. Your surgeon will be the best option for that. Thank you!

Hello, thank you for your recent question!  This is something that is common and nothing to be worried about.  Sometimes if the suture is able to be felt you can clip it flesh with the skin and most times this will resolve and heal up fairly quickly.  Best of luck! 

Thanks for your inquiry, without a picture it is hard to advise, but in general stitches can spit even a few months after surgery.  Listen to your surgeon's advice and good luck.

It is very common to have some suture issues after surgery.  This can range from suture migration, excessing scarring and actual peri-suture abscess. Sometimes antibiotics are adequate and other times the suture has to be removed for healing purposes.  It sounds like your issue will resolve just fine and if you notice any significant changes then please notify your PS.  Good luck and hope this helps!
