My top lip is massive and duck like after 1ml of lip filler, is this just swelling? (Photo)

I had 1ml of juvederm yesterday and my top like is far bigger than the bottom. I have a duck like pout and I was wondering whether this could just be due to swelling? Will my top like reduce to be smaller than my bottom lip again? They both feel pretty stiff but I am happy with how the bottom lip looks.

It will take 2 weeks for swelling to subside after lip injections.  I would recommend that you book a 2 week follow up with your injector and if you are still unhappy you can discuss options .   Best of luck !

Thank you for your question and for sharing your photograph.  Sorry that you are having some concerns about your postprocedure appearance.  Swelling is normal after treatment with Juvederm, especially when the lips are treated.  Please keep in mind that it will take 2 weeks to allow for normal postprocedure swelling to fully resolve and to see your final result.  Icing is beneficial for up to 48 hours after the procedure.  Arnica is also helpful for minimizing normal postprocedure swelling and bruising, if present.  If you continue to have any concerns at 2 weeks (final result), please be sure to see your injector for an in-person reevaluation in order to determine the best course of action.  Hope this helps and best wishes!

Swelling and bruising is common after lip injections and can persist up to two weeks.  Until that time it is too early to judge your results.  You can use ice on the area and gentle massage to help lessen the symptoms.  If after two weeks you still have concerns, return to your injector for an evaluation.

I always tell my patients to not love their filler injections for 2 weeks. Swelling is very common and sometimes immediate. It can last 3-7 days and a good idea is to use cold compresses. Cold compresses may be used immediately after treatment to reduce swelling only if needed. This may be applied for 3 minutes, 3 times per day, for up to 3 days. This is best done with a bag of peas in a zip lock bag. Only apply light pressure to the area but gentle massage might be necessary if the bump is from the filler material itself. Get Arnica gel if you can find some and apply a few times a day as well to help treat any swelling. Avoid any blood thinners. Bruising can also last 1-2 weeks. I don't recommend hyaluronidase this early and wait a few weeks until the swelling has resolved. If it is persistent or you are worried, set up a follow up appointment with your dermatologist.

The lips are particularly sensitive so yes, the swelling is normal. For now, ice and massage the area. It will take a few weeks for your final results.

It is normal to get some swelling after fillers in the lip, some people get more than others.  I would apply ice for 10-15 min. 4x today.  It should settle down in a few days. If not, call the doctor who did the procedure as the Juvederm can be dissolved. Hang in there, I bet you will like the result once the swelling settles down.  Lana Long, MD

First one to two weeks, swelling is universal. All my patients are told not to make a decision about lips until the 2 week mark. Considering you are only 24 hours out, my suggestion is to wait one week at least before making any decisions- taking daily photos can help psychologically!
