I have deep smile lines on either side of my mouth. I got Juvederm in Feb 2019, and am thinking of getting it again. However, I've read online that fillers can detrimental overtime to looking younger - that in the long run, they will cause wrinkles; something to do with the skin not being able to stretch? Id love to get a straight answer on this. Are fillers a good idea for the short AND long term, or just the short term?

Answer: Long term effects of fillers Fillers are a great option for both long and short-term improvement. In the short-term, there is improved volume from the filler and there is some evidence that there can be collagen synthesis that helps in the long-term. In some patients, fillers can cause swelling from fluid retention as the product dissolves, but this is easily treated with hyaluronidase (filler dissolver). I have patients I have been treated with fillers for more than 10 years and it amazes me how much long-term improvement can be accomplished in these patients.
