I'm having a breast augmentation in 11 days (delayed due to a cold). I took one dose of pepto bismol yesterday and half a dose today for indigestion due to being sick. Now realizing it contains aspirin, did I take it far enough out from my surgery date for it be out of my system?

Hello!I would not worry about this. I would recommend you stick with Tums, Maalox or Zantac if you need.Mention it to your surgeon. This will not be grounds to further delay your procedure.Best of luck!

Thanks for your excellent question, Anon. The half life of Aspirin is about 3 hours, because of this the aspirin will be out of your system within a day. The issue is that once the Aspirin interacts with platelets in your blood, it permanently deactivates them from clotting. It take the body about a week to recycle the platelets and make new ones. Since your surgery is 11 days out, you should be ok but I would certainly let your surgeon know

Aspirin can cause bleeding issues during surgery. You need to inform your surgeon, there are different opinions on how long you need to avoid aspirin. Good luck.

Please contact your Surgeon for any concern or doubt, it’s very important he/she know any medication you took before your surgery, most of them can give you any reaction in the Operation room or after surgery, 10 days are enough to your body clean your system of aspirin. 
Do not put your live in risk hiding information to your Doctor.

every plastic surgeon has his own postoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. Aspirin can increase the risk of bleeding. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.

So answers here will vary. In general, most plastic surgeons want patients to stop using these sorts of products for 1-2 weeks prior to surgery. The most common complication with surgery is bleeding. If you were my patient, I would cancel. Two weeks is minimum. I prefer 3.
