Swelling a year after injection of dermal fillers?

Question

Hi, doctors, I got my lips, under eyes and cheek fillers a year ago. But my face got bloated at least once a week in that particular areas where i got injected. It's too obvious that i have to wear mask to go out. After a day later, it became normal. I don't know what I eat is the cause of allergic reaction to the fillers. Or may be the pills that I take for abdominal pain. Please help me find out what I should stay away from. I'm too ashamed to post my photo here. Plz help me.

Thank you for sharing your question and I am sorry to hear of your filler related difficulties.  I would advocate seeing your injector during one of your swelling episodes so that a professional can assess what is taking place.  An appropriate treatment can then be recommended to you.  Hope this helps.

I recommend following up with your injector or a cosmetic dermatologist. If this is filler, it can be reversed with hyaluronidase. Hope this helps.

Thankyou for your question.I suggest you go back to your injector. Yes you can swelling after one year. We are not 100% sure why but it could be lymphatic drainage or if any hardness it could be and injection.The filler can be dissolved so best you speak to you injector.Good luck

Certain types of dermal fillers are made with hyaluronic acids (HA).  These HA fillers attract water, some more than others.  The amount of product and the locations injected may influence this swelling.
In general this resolves.  Since it has been one year I would take pictures when it is most apparant and return back to your injector.

Good Afternoon, thank you for your inquiry. Even though it is uncommon, this may be a chronic reaction for the filler injection, however, there are other possible reasons that may explain your symptoms as well. This being said, I recommend you to visit your board certified injector to decide if hyaluronidase must be used or not to disolve the filler.

Most commonly seen in Vycross HA fillers like Juvederm, however I have seen this reaction in other HA and non HA fillers as well. Recently had a round table discussion regarding this reaction, it can be dissolved by your injector. Australia has lax laws in regards to who can inject. I have no problems with Nurses and GPs injecting, however they need to know the complications of fillers, everything from acute vascular injury to rare cross antigenic reactions and how to manage these. The good news is that filler can be dissolved. For my patients who have this rare reaction, I investigate occult cross antigens (ASOT, Urine culture, ? RCT? chronic sinus ? T.B etc.. ), investing based upon your demographics and history, then start patients on short sharp tapering pred, minocycline and antihistamines. 95% of my cases settle with this protocol my theory is that the antigen of HA filler will once again change when Vycross breaks down. Hence the immune status is in flux. The immune suppression with minocycline (anti inflammatory as well as immune modifier / ab) coupled with Prednisone and antihistamines will temporarily suppress expression of modified HA.
