Why would Botox cause a Urinary infection?

Question

Why would Botox cause a Urinary infection? Does the toxin get eliminated through the bladder and causes weakness the bladder muscle leaving urine in the ureter? That’s a guess, but how would one find out the real reason? and how would you prevent it?

Botox, let alone any neuromodulator, should have no effect or cause a urinary tract infection. The solution is saline and the toxin is absorbed by the tissue. Proteins bound to the toxin should be filtered by the kidney, though should have no plausible effect on the bladder.

Many people associate Botox with health problems they experience around the time they were injected.  The doses used in facial injection have very few side effects and they are almost all limited to the face. Other "side effects" you experience after injection are more likely coincidental and if serious, should be followed up by your primary care physician.

Botox injections and UTI's in women are both very common things. You can get them at the same time just like you can get french fries with a Hamburger. I doubt that the two are related.

Although extremely rare, Botox can migrate and possibly cause loss of bladder control. This would most likely manifest itself as incontinence. I'm not a urologist, but I don't think that incontinence leads to a UTI very often. I would think that urinary retention would be a more likely culprit. You might want to check with a urologist instead of your PCP to get his/her thoughts about this.         jlr
