I am considering using Botox to slim my jaw. About 9 years ago I had jaw correcting surgery and permanently have small metal plates in my lower jaw. I was wondering if this would be an issue if I was to proceed with a jaw slimming treatment using injectables?
Answer: Botox to slim the jaw after surgery Botox can be used to decrease the size of the masseter muscle and slim the jawline near the angle of the mandible. This should still be effective, even in a person with a history of jaw surgery. As Dr. Shieh mentioned, bite issues are possible, but not common. Be sure to see an expert physician injector who specializes in facial aesthetic procedures. All the best,

Answer: Botox for Lower Face Slimming Botox and the other neuromodulators can help decrease the prominence of the lower face and jaw. It does so by decreasing muscle hypertrophy in the masseter muscle which lays on the jaw bone. The masseter can become large through grinding and chewing gum, as well as with certain ethnicity. It is a simple and effective treatment which has no downtime and is done in the office. Results may be appreciated after one month and require a couple of treatments. Previous jaw surgery should not have any effect on the injection technique though there could be scarring on the bone muscle attachment.

Answer: Botox in jaw after surgery Hello and thank you for your question. There should be no issue with being treated with Botox after your jaw surgery. These metal plates were placed in the bone, underneath the muscles that would be injected with Botox. Botox is used to slim down the jaw by treating the large muscles called the massesters. These muscles are injected with just enough Botox to relax the muscles and lower their strength. When the muscle is not being used to its potential, it shrinks down over time. Be sure to see an experienced injector. Best of luck!

Answer: Neck Lift Thank you for your question. You sound like an ideal candidate for the laser-assisted weekend necklift because it is minimally invasive and can create a more contoured neck and jawline with a recovery as short as one weekend. Always work with a board certified facial plastic surgeon. Best wishes,

Answer: Botox for masseters Botox can be injected into the masseter muscles to slim the “jawline“ and narrow the lower face. Due to the fact that it slims the lower face and jawline by atrophying the masseter muscles, having bony corrective jaw surgery is not a contraindication to this procedure. I would make sure that you seek out a consultation with a board certified surgeon who is an expert on that anatomy.
