Hello, I am looking to have Lipo/BBL with Arm Lipo . My blood work for my PTT came back as a 41.1. I am not on any blood thinners or medication. Would it still be safe for me to have the procedure? I do carry the Thalassemia trait.
Answer: Surgery This question will best be answered by your medical doctor or even a hematologist. It does show you may have increased bleeding risks.

Answer: Elevated PTT Based on this PTT value, you would not be a candidate for surgery in my office, and I would suspect that 99% of plastic surgeons would agree (and I would be very suspect of the 1% who may say yes). The best thing to do is to see your physician and repeat the test. It may be an error. If not, have them investigate possible causes and treat that before having elective cosmetic surgery.

Answer: Lab values Safety is always the priority in surgery. The ordering physician needs to be consulted about your abnormal lab values. A repeat test may be performed in order to rule out an error. If you continue with abnormal results a consult with a hematologist may be indicated before proceeding with surgery.

Answer: Pre-operative work up for surgery I’m glad to see that your doctor has requested a pre-operative work up in preparation for your surgery. Since you have a lab value out of range, please discuss this with your surgeon and see if they recommend further testing, especially in light of your thalassemia.

Answer: Very high PTT Based on that very high PPT you need repeat PTT asap. Stop any supplements or diet drinks/pills. Call your chosen surgeon to discuss, if you have one or going to clinic . Then no way to speak to assigned surgeon! A high PPT could indicate bleeding & clotting issues! Might need hematology clearance. Best to switch to private practice real plastic surgeon for your surgery …..
