The choice of procedure it should be based on having a clear understanding of what the underlying problem is. If the treatment treats the exact problem, and there are no other variables in my definition, patients are good candidates. For chin augmentation the ideal candidate has a strong, full-size mandible with a Chin that lacks projection, either vertically or horizontally or both. The ideal candidate has weakness only in the chin or mentalis region of the mandible. These individuals usually have a back sloping chin with an obtuse or non existent labiomental angle. There are other variables, such as the width of the mantle is, and there are implants that can include lateral projection as well. Consider having in person consultations with both oral surgeons and plastic surgeons in your community to get in more accurate assessment, and better understanding of treatment options.Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
