Nipple Piercings after Breast Reduction, when is it safe?

Question

It will be exactly one month after my breast reduction surgery tomorrow and my breasts are healing great. I can sleep on my side and even go braless for the entire day without any problems! Soon I want to pierce my nipples and I want to know when is a safe time. I'm well aware of the risks and I'm not planning on getting it until I am advised. Please don't recommend me to call my surgeon. She's out of town for one and also kinda rude.

I advise my patient to wait at least 8-12 weeks and all incisions have to be completely healed. There are risk with nipple piercings that are inherent to the process itself. It's important to understand these risk and to go to a reputable facility for the piercings.

Thank you for sharing your excellent question.  In most instances you want to allow yourself time to fully heal before pursuing any additiona intervention with your breasts.  Assuming you have not had any wound/incision issues I would recommend repiercing at 6-8 weeks after surgery.  Hope this helps.

All the answers you are going to get this question will vary from surgeon to surgeon.  I think it is a fair matter to undergo the piercings three months after surgery.  By then, most all of the swelling is gone and the accuracy should be improved.  Recognize of course, even if you had not have had that surgery there is always going to be a risk of infection after nipple piercing even in the unoperated breast.  I hope this has been helpful.

You will generally need to wait 3 - 6 months after breast reduction to get your nipples pierced. Ensure that the swelling has completely subsided before after your nipples pierced.

I would say it is okay to do the piercing when all of the incisions are completely healed with no scabbing or drainage.

Thanks for the question. Wait at least 3 month after your surgery. The swelling will have disappeared  and the placing of the piercing will be more acurate.

Six weeks following a reduction mammoplasty, providing your nipple area healed well with no problems should be an adequate amount of time for nipple piercing.
I would be very careful going braless for any prolonged period of time. Your breasts are sutured together now, and the sutures can pull out before your scar tissue has any strength-- a minimum of three months. Going braless will make you sag.
