I have tied my tubes with titanium clips 2 yrs ago. Can I have ultrasonic cavitation on my abdomen if I have metal inside me?

Titanium clips might be an issue if you have an MRI, but you are safe for having liposuction with ultrasound or with laser-assisted (Slimlipo or Smartlipo) liposuction.

The operation is very safe and above the abdominal fascia so any surgey you had intra-abdominally would be unaffected. The ultrasound from the liposuction device only carries for a few millimeters around the cannula. You can feel confident that you can undergo the surgery without any problem from the titanium clips in your abdomen.  

Ultrasonic liposuction uses a wand that vibrates the tip at very high frequencies causing cavitation locally. The effect ranges out only a few millimeters. Unlike an MRI, metal elsewhere in the body or even very close to the liposuction cannula tip will not have an affect on either the liposuction or the safety of the procedure.

Tubal ligation with titanium clips should not hinder you from having ultrasonic liposuction.Best of luck,Mats Hagstrom, M.D.

You will be perfectly safe with ultrasonic liposuction.  The effect is only a few mm around the tip of the cannula.  No worry.   My Best,  Dr C
