Swelling is normal after liposuction and can last 3-6 months. I recommend adding hyperbaric oxygen and lymphatic massage along with your compression to help decrease swelling. To improve your final results, I also recommend adding coolsculpting/vanquish for further fat removal, exilis/venus legacy for skin tightening, cellutone/z wave to make the skin smooth, remove scar tissue, and improve the skin's appearance. Thank you for sharing your question and congratulations on your procedure. I would recommend seeing your surgeon for an in-person evaluation. Swelling after liposuction is very common and is usually best treated with a well-fitted compression garment to the area. You would also want to walk several times during the day, hydrate appropriately and reduce salt intake. Talk to your surgeon as they can offer the best information on your specific case.
Swelling is very common for the first several months. Most of the swelling does go away within 6-8 weeks, but there is residual swelling for 4-6 months.
Swelling is a normal part of recovery after surgery, especially liposuction. A properly fitted and worn compression garment can minimize the amount of swelling you experience after surgery and can hasten the resolution of the swelling. Overhydration can increase the amount of swelling you experience and will prolong the time it takes for the swelling to resolve. It is not unusual for some degree of swelling to persist for months after surgery. Overactivity in the early recovery period can also result in more swelling which then takes longer to achieve your desired goals. However, if the swelling is very localized, has associated firmness of the tissues, color changes of the skin or seems to be getting worse, you may have a postoperative complication that needs to be addressed by your surgeron. You would be best served to followup with your surgeon to confirm you are making progress.Good luck with the rest of your recovery!
Swelling and bruising following liposuction is common. You will find that your swelling may fluctuate. We recommend to our patients to wear their compression garment as much as for the first 2 weeks and 12 hours a day for the last 2 weeks. Icing will also help reduce swelling and bruising. If you are concerned, I recommend contacting your surgeon so they may evaluate you and provide the best course of action.
Swelling post liposuction can lasts for the good part of 6 months. Most surgeons provide you with a compression garment that they suggest wearing as much as possible that helps to shape you and reduce the swelling faster. There are also massage techniques and radio frequency treatments that may also help. Keep in mind that swelling is always going to be worse in the evening and in the lower body after you have been up and about all day due to gravity. Talk to your surgeon to get his/her suggestions.
You did not submit a picture and you did not specify which areas were treated. In general, swelling after a procedure that is getting worse may indicate formation of a fluid build-up called a seroma. You need to see your surgeon for evaluation. In complex cases an ultrasound can be performed to investigate underlying process.
