A well balanced diet with complete proteins, independent of origin, will allow for appropriate healing. Your plastic surgeon should be providing you with this information as advice will differ. Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA
There are really no restrictions on your diet after a tummy tuck. You should eat what ever you feel comfortable with. For a week or two, many patients have a decreased appetite. Remember this is the time of greatest healing and you should try to take in a normal amount of calories.
Lots of hydration and protein, possibly vitamin supplements as needed. Minimize salt and fat intake. Definitely discuss with your surgeon her/his recommendations. I talk to my patients about pineapple intake and Arnica utilization to help reduce swelling and bruising beyond the usual diet recommendations.
I recommend a liquid diet the first day and then add solid foods as desired. Your appetite may be reduced after surgery but it will soon return. Be sure to stay hydrated. Check with your plastic surgeon for more recommendations. Best wishes.
Thank you for your question. The most important thing is that you need to maintain a healthy diet after surgery with enough proteins and liquid (water). Best of luck
Thanks for your question. Immediately after surgery we recommend our patients start out with clear fluids, which are then progressed to their normal diet as soon as they are able to tolerate it. Take care and all the best with your recovery.
I tell my patients to start off with a light meal after a tummy tuck to see how they tolerate it after anesthesia. After that, they can usually go back to a regular diet.
Thank you for the question. There is no specific “recommended diet” for the post-tummy tuck patient. A well-balanced diet with high fiber and a good protein source would obviously be helpful. Adding a protein shake ( to each meal) if necessary may also be helpful especially if your appetite is curtailed ( which often happens during this period). Frequent hydration is also important. Bowel movements may also be delayed: careful attention to appropriate nutrition, fiber, hydration, and ambulation are important in this regard as well.Best wishes.
Thanks for the question.Immediately after the procedure, you should eat light...toast with jelly, soup, crackers. Stay away form fried foods or milk products. Always have something in your stomach before taking the pain medications or antibiotics. The next day, you can usually eat whatever you like if there was no nausea or vomiting the previous day.Make sure to use something to soften your stools. It is common to have terrible constipation after a tummy tuck due to immobility and pain medications. Finally, always ask your doctor. They should have a regime for you to follow.Good luck.Dr T
usually recommend starting slowly the first day with liquids and then a little solid food. most back to their normal diet within first day or two.
