Does Sculptra work well under the eyes to increase collagen?

Question

Does sculptura work well under the eyes to increase collagen? I want a little more volume andI don't want to inject that area with fillers as it sounds like there may be problems with discoloration down the road. From my consultations, it seems that lasers don't really address that problem but more to reduce wrinkles.

I would not recommend using Sculptra under the eyes.  In my opinion, hyaluronic acid fillers, such as Restylane give better results.

I have used Sculptra here but it is hard to fine tune with it. I use it as a base and then layer Restylane on top. Imagine placing water in the tear trough and expecting it to lay down collagen exactly how you want. It is impossible to do. I will fill all round the eye with small amounts of Sculptra with cannulas in a deep fashion. I don't see nodules but I still need more filler on top to get to the final result. I use Restylane on cannulas for most of my treat trough corrections.

Sculptra is a unique filler in that it stimulates your own body to produce new collagen. I often begin in the cheek region to replace what is missing and to "anchor" the upper cheek. After over 10 years of experience, I find that a strategic correction of the cheek contour can also significantly improve the appearance of the lower eyelid area.

I agree with other reviewers. I believe that Restylane is a better injectable for the tear troughs because it is reversible. Sculptra may precipitate for lower eyelid granulomas(especially if the Sculptra is not diluted enough) because there is very little soft tissue overlying the orbital rim. It is true that Restylane and Belotero can produce a blue hue (Tyndall effect) to occur especially if the injection is performed superficially and /or a large volume is injected.This effect can be avoided in most cases by injecting Restylane deep and restricting the volume of the injection.

From your question i have a difficult time figuring out the problem you are trying to treat. Lasers tighten skin by increasing collagen and elastin content and correct a little hollowing by tightening skin but for real contour issues you need either fat removed or for hollowing fat or filler put in. there are lots of things we can do to improve lower eyelids but an in person evaluation is needed. sculptra is a lousy choice for under the eyes and can lump there. its great for the submalar area or temples but i don't use under the eyes. my favorite filler for under the eyes is belotero as its soft and very forgiving.

I like Sculptra as a collagen stimulating filler but I don't recommend Sculptra under the eyes.  There is a higher risk for bumps or nodules in this area.  I use Restylane under the eyes injected with a cannula instead of a needle.  My patients typically love the results and downtime is minimal.  I highly recommend cannula injections instead of needle.Regards,Dr. Ort

Dear DNE:Sculptra actually is a biostimulatory filler, but it is not commonly injected under the eyes. You should not have to be concerned about discoloration from injections of the Belotero or Resylane under the eyes.All the best,Dr. Clark

Sculptra is a filler ( along with Restylane, Juvederm, Voluma, Bellafil etc). All of these can be confusing to read about.  I would suggest you find a highly experienced practitioner in all of these products who can guide you appropriately. Hope that helps.
