Is it okay to use Voluma around the mouth and in the nasolabial folds?

Voluma is FDA-approved for the enhancement of the mid-face. With that said, off-label a little bit in the NLFs can be appropriate when injected in the right plane. I would not advise the use of Voluma in the lips. There are great fillers available for that indication.

Voluma works great around the mouth and other areas of the face, but that is considered off-label.  I suggest only going to an experienced physician for this type of treatment.  Specifically one who uses a cannula to prevent complications.  Best, Dr. Emer.

This is a great filler for placement deep in the mid face. Keep in mind, use elsewhere on the face is an off label use. I would recommend you discuss and be examined by a board certified dermatologist before rendering any opinion on this question.

As I have no visuals of your face, I can only tell you Juvederm Voluma™ XC is specially formulated to add volume to cheeks. Voluma is a Hyaluronic Acid (HA) filler used for deep injection in the cheek area to correct sagging and the appearance of hollow cheeks. However, it is not commonly used to plump out the  nasolabial folds and marionette lines that run from nose to mouth on both sides of the face. For that, I recommend Juvéderm® XC. Both are HA fillers, but they do not have the same density or properties, and they cannot be used interchangeably.

Voluma is FDA-Approved to restore volume to the midface, especially the cheek and cheekbone areas. Juvederm XC might be a more effective treatment to fill in folds around the mouth. There are other fillers that are more suitable for this area as well. It is best to see a board-certified dermatologist to determine which filler is most appropriate for you!

I think there are much better products to use in this area than Voluma. Hylenex is effective at removing Voluma but can take a larger dose than other hyaluronic acid products. If your phyisician injector is not comfortable refining your result for Hylenex, then I would recommend that you seek a second opinion. A constant theme on Realself is to blame the product, not the provider.  Lumbs from Voluma are related to technique.  Voluma is a thicker product and needs to be injected slightly different than other fillers.  To dissolve, it takes one or 2 treatments with hyaluronidase, about 2 weeks apart.  Often results are apparent within hours.  After it's dissolved, wait about 1-2 weeks to get reinjected.
