Is Restylane or Restylane Silk FDA approved for tear trough fillers? (photos)

 leeannjuarez1005 Thank you for the questions and photographs.  While no FDA approved filler is available for tear troughs, cosmetic surgeons can utlize these fillers for this delicate area.   This is very common in  many aspects of medicine, for example Botox was first approved for the galbellar line ( 11 lines over the nose)  but  doctors utilzed it to treat migraine headaches ( which later gained FDA approval) Each physician will have their favorite fillers to use in the tear trough. I encourage you to speak with your cosmetic surgeon to discuss your concerns.

In the US, there are no FDA approved fillers for the tear troughs.  Docs often use different fillers off label, particularly in this area.  Some commonly used fillers are belotero, restylane/silk/refyne, or volbella lately.  Have a discussion with your doc and exam so that what is troubling you can be dealt with.  Best of luck.

Doctors often use fillers in this area off label.  The most commonly used fillers for the tear trough area is Belotero and Restylane. No filler is actually FDA approved for tear troughs, however Restylane is very commonly used off-label for treatment of this area. If you are unhappy with the results your doctor can inject hyaluronidase, which is an enzyme that dissolves hyaluronic acid (what Restylane is). In terms of the smile lines and forehead movement you mention, the tear trough Restylane would not have had any effect on this and is unrelated. If you are not pleased with the results they can be fixed or improved, you just need to let your doctor know. If you don't feel comfortable with them fixing your concerns then I'd advise consulting with another board-certified dermatologist with extensive filler experience. Ideally you would go to your original doctor since they did the work, but I assure you either way this can be improved.

Hi Leeann, I believe that you are stating that you had filler under your eyes.  Restylane does work the best under the eyes and you may need more. What is confusing is you are saying that you have movement between your eyes. Restylane is not a toxin, but a filler, therefore you should be moving...Please go back to your doctor and discuss where they are already did filler on you and what your current expectations are so you can come to an agreement.
