Is a sizable purple mark normal after Restylane injection?

The most common reason for a bluish purple Mark following injection is a common bruise. Unfortunately, when the needle is placed under the skin occasionally a small blood vessel may be affected and may bleed causing a bruise. Fortunately, this goes away. One other issue is that if a lot of hyaluronic gel is placed in one spot superficially, one can sometimes see a bluish tinge to the skin. It is different than the bruise and easy to tell the two apart.

Some bruising and/or swelling can occur after lip injections and should resolve in 1-2 weeks. In the meantime, VBeam treatments can improve the appearance of the bruise. Best, Dr. Emer

Hi CarrLee,Thank you for your question and photos. Bruising is not uncommon after filler injection due to the trauma of the needle as it is moved in and out of the skin. Fortunately, in the vast majority of cases, it is nothing to worry about and will go away on its own. It may take up to 2 weeks to resolve as your body breaks down the old blood there. In the future, apply a cool compress to the treated area on and off for the first 2 days after treatment to minimize risk of bruising. Hope this helps!

Swelling and bruising are not uncommon after injections, particularly in the lips and around the mouth.  Even without treatment, the bruise should fade completely within 2 weeks or so.  Certain lasers can help bruises fade significantly faster - if the bruise is bothering you, it may be worthwhile to ask your dermatologist if he/she can do a laser spot treatment to treat it.

Thank you for your question. It is very common to have bruising after an injection into the skin. This can take up to 2 weeks to completely heal. You can apply ice and take Arnica to help reduce any bruising. If you still have any concerns please contact your injector. Best of Luck!

As my colleagues have suggested, it is uncommon, but some patients bruise after filler injections.  The discoloration will resolve over time and should not influence the results of your restylane.  Consider arnica and bromelain supplements, also eating pineapple, to speed resolution of the bruise, as well as simply applying warm compresses.  Know that you can wear camouflage, and mineral make ups tend to do a better job that traditional cover up.  If you get filler again, make certain that you avoid aspirin or NSAIDs (advil, ibuprofen, motrin...) for at least week prior to the appointment to minimize your chance of bruising.  

Hello CarrLee,Although it is rare to have any significant bruising after injectable fillers, it can happen.  That appears to be all that is taking place here.  It may take some time for this to go away, but there should not be any risk of long term problems.  However long your bruises usually take to go away will determine how long this takes to go away.I hope this helps and good luck.  

Any time there is an injection into the skin there is the chance of bruising. This will completely heal without leaving any residua. Since it has been a couple of days now use warm compresses and apply arnica or vitamin K

Bruising is a very common side effect of filler and almost always nothing to worry about. I am surprised your doctor would have told you this, as it is not possible to ensure the patient will not bruise. This will take time to heal and could be up to two weeks before you are back to your normal coloring. One option would be to see if the office where you had your procedure offers Vbeam for bruising. This laser can help to diminish bruises, speeding up the process. Good luck and don't worry.
