I have recently turned 18 and have always felt insecure about my breasts. Do I have tubular breasts? (photo)

Tuberous breast is not, technically speaking, a "yes" or "no" question. There can be different points on the continuum. The typical hallmarks include a high, tight fold with "puffy" or distended areola, minimal breast tissue and potentially herniation of the breast tissue through a tightened ring thus the "tuberous" label. It is a congenital deformity which usually manifests at puberty. To what degree it manifests will vary from one patient to the next.
Treatment of tuberous breasts varies depending on the degree of the breast architectural distortion. Surgical correction typically involves:
-areolar reduction
-submuscular augmentation
-release of constricted breast tissue
All of these techniques work in concert to correct the tuberous deformation of the breast.
Based upon your photos alone, you do exhibit some features of a tuberous breast on the right (high tight fold/areolar herniation and distension). This could be addressed via augmentation and radial parenchymal scoring. There is ptosis on the left which would necessitate a formal mastopexy as well. Overall, you are a reasonable candidate for breast augmentation mastopexy to address the asymmetry.
As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS).

Tubular breasts are where the breast tissue looks like it is herniating or pushing through the areola (or pigmented area). Sometimes the areola can be large. Sometime the bottom of the breast is constricted or tight. Most times, people have significant breast asymmetry or are unequal. This can be a very challenging problem and difficult to create symmetry. My patients usually opt for some type of breast augmentation to better round out the appearance of the breasts and an areolar reduction. Make sure to see someone with a lot of breast surgery experience. My best to you.

Dear AspenGirl, Yes, you have tubular breasts. The good news is that surgery can help you feel and look better in and out of clothes. It looks like a peri-areolar lift, radial scoring and a sub-muscular implant should give you the results you are looking for. Make sure your surgeon is experienced with this type of surgery. thank you for your question and photos and congratulations for your investigation. I think you really would benefit by breast surgery at some point. I think it really will change how you feel and just makes simple act of getting dressed so much easier. As the other doctors have said, I wholeheartedly support you to seek out a well-trained  board certified plastic surgeon. I think you really will notice a huge difference!

Yes your breasts are tuberous but you can still have a very nice result with the correct operation. Here is what I recommend:1) donut mastopexy to resize your areolas and reposition your nipples
2) radial scoring of the breast tissue to give a more natural contour
3) under the muscle implant placement
4)
saline implants because the higher internal pressure of overfilled
saline implants helps create cleavage and redrape your tissues properly
With those steps you can have a very beautiful result!

Based on the pictures, yes you do have Tubular/ Tuberous breast.  It is possible to correct this with breast implants.

thank you for your Questions And your photos. You certainly have to breast breast. It basically means that when you're breast developed the under part of your breast didn't develop completely.That's why it seems that they are long, puffy And was cone shaped. Your left is larger than you're right.I think without a proper physical examination it is hard to see exactly how best to fix them. But routinely I would recommend a breast augmentation through The area around the nipple with radial scoring would help to Expand the lower part of your breast which is a necessity. I would also recommend a donut Breast lift to To help shrink your Areola. This can all be done at the same time.Stop rations take about two hours. The Last question would be whether you place implants over under the muscle. I would recommend placing them above the muscle to help stretch the lower part of your breast.  just make sure to visit with several board-certified plastic surgeons and pick one that you feel comfortable with if you get to the point of correcting your tuberous  breast.  Good luck.All the best,Carlos Mata M.D., MBA, FACS

Dear AspenGirl69,tuberous breasts are not simply small or underdeveloped breasts. The appearance of the breast can range from mild to severe, and typical traits include: enlarged, puffy areola, rather wide spacing between the breasts, very little breast tissue, sagging, higher than normal inferior breast fold, and narrow base at the chest wall.

Hello and thank you for your question. You do appear to have tuberous breasts with enlarged areolas and lower pole constriction.  You are a great candidate
for a breast augmentation with areolar reduction and release of lower pole constriction bands.  The size, profile, and shape of the
implant is based on your desired breast size/shape, your chest wall
measurements, and soft tissue quality.  This decision should
be based on a detailed discussion with equal input from both you
and your surgeon.   Make sure you
specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have
had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results.   The most important aspect is to find a
surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation with a
qualified board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person.
