Lip filler hit a blood vessel. Did I get cold sores out of this lip filler? (photos)

Thanks for your question. It does not look like a vessel was involved, but photos are not a substitute for a good physical exam. I suggest you keep following up with your doctor. 

I would follow up with your injector. The cold sores can be due to your lip filler treatment and should be treated with antiviral medication. Hope this helps.

The color of your lower lip is not related to "cold sores", particularly since you have never had a cold sore before.   I would recommend returning to your injecting physician for evaluation.  The mottling color is a bit worrying to me and your lower lip needs to be evaluated for vascular compromise.  You may need to have hyaluronidase injected to dissolve the filler which may be affecting your circulation.  See your physician asap.  Good luck and be well.

Thank you for sharing your question and photograph and I am sorry to hear of your bruising and swelling episode. If these cold sores broke out they are likely due to the trauma and irritation that resulted from your lip augmentation.  Treated with antivirals like Acyclovir/Valtrex they should clear quickly.  I would recommend pre-treating yourself with the medication prior to any future treatments.  Hope this helps.

Any inflammation around the lips can trigger a cold sore, even if you have never had one before.  This includes lasers, microneedles, and fillers.  With the medication you should heal fine.  In the future, you should pre-treat for a couple of days to decrease the chance of this happening again.

Cold sores, caused by herpes simplex virus, lays latent in your system. The stress of lip filler/excessive sun/lasers etc. can cause a breakout.  If you are prone to cold sores, it may be good to pre treat with Valtrex 1 day prior and the day of the procedure to minimize outbreak.  The face, in general has many vessels and it is not unlikely that a bruise can occur post injectables.  The utilization of microcannulas can help minimize bruising, but even still bruises can occur.  The good new is that they resolve.  Hope that helps.

The good news is is that whatever it is you have, it will resolve. Most likely the trauma of the lip injection stimulated a virus that was already in the system before the treatment. This has caused the breakout. But with the proper medication it will improve quickly. Thid may happen again in the future, so don't be surprised. Good luck from New York City

Follow up with your provider in any event where something does not look right or feel right.  Look for signs and symptoms of infection such as fever, pain, and prolonged inflammation.  Typical swelling after lip injections lasts around 3-4 days however, sometime residual minor swelling can last up to two weeks.  Biggest swell days are typically day 2 and day 3 after your treatment.  Improvement should be noted thereafter.  If anything is worsening for you, you should follow up with your provider promptly.  If you are prone to getting cold sores, it is ideal to prophalactically begin Valtrex the day prior to your procedure.  The micro needles can act as a trauma then causing a hepetic flare up.  In the future, consider pre-medication.
