Swelling of radix 15 days post Septoplasty and Rhinoplasty. Any suggestions? (photos)

Question

Hi, I had both septoplasty and rhinoplasty done 15 days ago. There is a raised bump between my eyes. I know that I have to be patient but does it look like swelling of the radix (my surgeon didn't put a graft here) and how long will this take to go down? He did use spreader grafts, can I expect my nose to get narrower as swelling subsides? It's still very chunky. Thank you.

It is quite unusual to get swelling in the radix to this degree without the placement of a graft in the area.  You can try taping the nose to apply pressure in the area and see if the swelling subsides more quickly, with your surgeon's consent of course.

It's very hard to say what is causing your swelling just based on your photo. I'd check in with your surgeon to see what he thinks. You are very early after surgery so it is expected to have a bit of swelling in the area.

From your description sounds as though you have a fairly extensive rhinoplasty. Most patients have resolution of acute swelling in a couple of weeks. Resolution of the rest of the swelling will take several more months. From the photograph I don't see anything that is alarming.

You do have a very high radix. If this is indeed swelling, it should improve. If it does not, then it may be residual bone or something else. Only time will tell, try to be patient and allow your nose to heal.

Thank you for your question.  It is still very early.  You can expect that this area will get considerably better.  Everyone is different and some people swell more than others.  As long as it isn't red, increasing in pain, you don't have fevers (infections signs/symptoms), you just need to be patient and let you body heal. Patience is key. Try to watch your salt intake, as that can increase swelling. If you are still bothered by excessive swelling, consult with your physician regarding medication options to decrease the swelling. It can take up to a year for swelling to fully subside and for you to see the final results.best of luck,
