Can an Alarplasty decrease the size of my nose? (photos)

Question

I really hate how wide my nose gets when I smile. It makes me reluctant to smile with my teeth. I've gotten a consultation before and was told that my nostrils are a good size for my nose. He said there was nothing he can do about the shape or size except make it bigger by adding a bridge. I don't want to make it bigger at all.. is there anything else I can do about it? Or am I just stuck with this huge nose forever?

Hello, hope you are well. Thank you for submitting your photos and questions! You are not stuck with this "huge nose" forever. I would recommend that you consider alarplasty to reduce the width and flare of your nostrils/nasal base. This procedure can be performed under local anesthesia, and is relatively quick and painless.

I think you are a good candidate for alarplasty. The nice thing is that it is done awake under local anesthesia with virtually no recovery time. Bear in mind many surgeons don’t like doing alarplasties which might explain the answer you got previously

You can narrow the appearance of your nose without a full rhinoplasty. Alarplasty is a very fine and quick procedure that can narrow the nostrils and reduce the flare to soften the appearance. It has other names as well like ‘Weir Excisions’ or ‘Nostril Reduction’. However, it is important to note that asymmetry of nostrils is common and cannot be corrected with alarplasty. Yes, indeed, an alar plasty involves removing a small wedge of skin, typically about a quarter of an inch from the base of each nostril, and narrowing the base of your nostrils. This procedure can be performed under local anesthesia as an outpatient procedure.
