I know it is common practise to reduce the width of the alar in rhinoplasty but is it also possible to reduce the height of the alar if height is the issue?

The reduction you achieved is adequate although subtle. It seems that you did not have very wide nostrils to begin with. It is always better to be conservative with alarplasty. Give it at least a whole year and then decide if you want any further reduction.

Based on the photos, you are a great candidate for rhinoplasty. The tip can be worked on primarily to make it thinner. Your skin does appear a bit thick so you have to be realistic in your expectations, but you can have a nice improvement. Be sure to see a rhinoplasty specialist for consultation.
Alarplasty revisions are not easy. Sometimes the result can be worst then where you started. It should only be done if the likelihood of improvement is significant. Also, you have thick sebaceous skin and that is not good for alarplasty healing.
