Lip swollen for almost a week after Hyaluronidase! Is this normal?

Your lip swelling is normal after Wydase/ Hyaluronidase treatment. You may still have swelling from the Juvederm, which takes 2-3 weeks in some cases to resolve. Be patient.

Great question.  It is not uncommon for your upper lip to swell after any trauma.  The injection with hyaluronidase will certainly cause more swelling in your upper lip to happen when dissolving juvederm.  It can also depend on the product being dissolved - juvederm ultra will respond differently than ultra plus to hyaluronidase and what concentration was used to dissolve.  Your best bet at this point is to be patient, and give it some time to resolve.

There are a few possibilities but ask your injector to
consider the following: Persitent brusing and swelling from the injections
itself, persistent filler material, inflammatory nodules, granulomas and
possible infection as a cause. Need an opinion from an expert injector. I would
suggest to them consider injecting hyaluronidase or steroids into the area or
possible surgical consultation if it doesn't resolve after some time. Might be
worth starting an antibiotic to cover your basis but difficult to advice
without seeing the patient in person and knowing what was injected. If it is
persistent or you are worried, set up a follow up appointment with your
dermatologist.

It's hard to say for sure but it is more likely from the trauma of the injection process itself - swelling, bruising, etc., - than from the hyaluronidase.  Any injection can cause swelling but this one often doesn't, particularly if the injection process was atraumatic.  But since the lips have a significant blood supply, an injection there can produce swelling.The best thing is to stay in touch with your own plastic surgeon for follow up.I hope that this helps and good luck,Dr. Alan EnglerMember of #RealSelf500
