If there is very little unwanted fat that needs to be removed from the neck area, why some doctors told me that chin liposuction can take from 2-4 hours to complete the surgery? Some doctors told me no stitches would be necessary after the surgery? Only need to wear a neck wrap for 1-2 weeks? After the chin liposuction surgery would I be in pain, if I touched my neck the next day after the surgery was over with?

As you have discovered you can consult with 3 different Board Certified Plastic Surgeons and have 3 completely different treatment pathways offered to you. With regard to laser assisted liposuction to the neck and chin this treatment typically will take me a little less than 1 hour to complete. I do request my patients to wear a compressive wrap which is much like a band for the next 14 days while at home in order to help control and reduce swelling, I do not expect the wrap to be worn in public. It is possible to experience minimal bruising and discomfort following this procedure which feels much like a deep bruise. I typically will close my incisions with glue due to the small size. I always encourage my patients to schedule another consult if there are still questions as being fully informed prior to scheduling any procedure is the most important aspect of your care. There is minimal to no pain after surgery and most patients experience neck numbness for a few weeks... hence no pain. I ask patients to wear a jawbra for the first 24 hours and then only at night for 5 days. Hope this information is helpful.

Sometimes, liposuction under the chin is combined with other procedures that tighten the skin as well. Different surgeons may have slightly different ways of performing liposuction under the neck and they may also have different after care instructions. When I perform solely liposuction under the neck, it typically does not take more than 30 minutes. I do use one small stitch under the chin and I do have patients wear a neck compression wrap for 1-2 weeks. In most cases, I would say there is not significant pain after the procedure. If you touched the area the day after surgery, there probably would be some degree of tenderness though.

You may have swelling and/or tenderness, which can last 3-6 months after your procedure. To speed up healing, you can try adding hyperbaric oxygen, lymphatic massage, venus legacy or exilis radiofrequency treatments. Liposuction can only remove the fatty deposits above the platysma muscle. Patients will then be required to wear a head wrap for 1 to 2 days. When patients have fatty deposits removed underneath the platysma muscle, surgery is required, and then drains are left in place for 1 to 2 days without any head wraps.
