I seem to be allergic to Biocorneum for scar healing. I get red itchy bumps. What are other good options? Silicone sheets?

I use a silicone based scar cream in my practice with great results and literature backs this up. Many times patients will use them too early or too aggressively and get a reaction to it.

Thank you for your question.  I advise my patients to use Environ skin products that are rich in vitamin A or a scar repair of their choice beginning 4 weeks after breast augmentation.  Since your skin is inflamed, I advise a topical over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream.  Best to follow the specific instructions given to you by your plastic surgeon.

There are many different products that may help with scar healing. Often it is a trial and error to find a product that you may tolerate better than another one. Following up with your surgeon to discuss other options is best advice. 

Hi NonaI recommend that you stop the cream immediately and call your doctor for a recommendation.  There are a number of good options out there but it is always best to follow the surgeon's advice.  In fact, you should do what the doctor says and don't do what the doctor says not to do.A lot of people don't think of it, but the surgeon needs to know if/why you deviate from the plan to ensure that your recovery is not jeopardized- this means that you need to communicate any new meds, discontinuation of meds, reaction to treatment, etc.  Be sure that your drug allergy and your reaction is noted on your chart so that you don't suffer in the future.All the best.sek

Surgical paper tape is also a good option, even for patients with sensitive skin.  It minimizes wound tension and micro-motion, and also provides an external protective barrier.  Regardless of what you choose, I would recommend touching base with your surgeon regarding your choice.  Hope this helps!

Most of the topical silicone creams have similar ingredients so switching to another one like Siligen may be an option but may cause the same or similar problems.  I think you would be best trying Avosil which is an asylicalic acid  (Aspirin) based cream that may avoid the allergic component and works extremely well.
