Muscle spasm or beginning of capsular contracture? 14 weeks po BA. (photo)

Question

My right breast has been more firm than the left for a few days. It is not firm all the way around, only near the armpit extending towards the aerial. It is still soft on the bottom. No visible differences are noticeable. I am 14 weeks P.O. Thanks for your help!

Hello, if you've noticed tightness occurring over just a few days and it is not all the way around the breast it is not typical of the presentation of capsular contracture.  If you contact your surgeon they will be able to help manage this issue.

You will require a breast examination to determine if you're having a capsule contracture as photos are not helpful in determining the cause of your symptoms. Thank you for your question and photograph.  Your photograph does not indicate a visible capsular contracture.  My advice would be to massage the area and to follow up with your plastic surgeon should you experience increased firmness, swelling or pain.  Best of luck.

More than likely, this is just some muscle spasm. Often times, as patients are starting to get better and start to do new and different activities, they start to complain of increased symptoms such as pain or muscle spasms. It is very common for one breast to heal at a different rate than the other. I would recommend seeing your treating plastic surgeon to evaluate your specific situation.

Go return to see your chosen operative surgeon ASAP for in person detached breast examination for cc. Addressing a cc early usually helps the return to a normal result...
