Most vitamins should be ok to take pre-operatively but get a list of the herbs, supplements etc.. that you should not be taking from your surgeon just to make sure. My best,Dr. Sheila Nazarian@drsheilanazarian on Instagram
Thank you for your question. In our office we have a list of vitamins, (vitamin E), and herbal supplements, (St. John's Wart, Fish Oil, etc.) that can cause bleeding. Much like ibuprofen or aspirin, they are to be avoided before and for a time after surgery. Certain herbal or over the counter supplements can also interfere with anesthesia. Please contact your board certified plastic surgeon, and ask what their routine is. Please make sure you ask any questions that you may have.
Thank you for your question. It is important to have a pre-operative meeting with your plastic surgeon to discuss all of the details relating to your pre and post operative care. I require my patients to stop all NSAIDs (non steroidal anti-inflammatories) which include Advil, Aleve, Ibuprofen, etc.. 10 days prior to surgery. I also require may patients to stop all herbal medications at least 7 days prior to surgery. To be safe, it is important to review all of your medications with your plastic surgeon. Good luck with your surgery!
Thank you very much for your question.Every doctor has their own protocols regarding supplements that should be stopped before surgery. I recommend contacting your doctor and asking what their thoughts are. Best of luck!
Thanks for your inquiry. I suggest you call your doctor's office and ask their recommendations. In general Vitamin B's, C, a multivitamin are safe, but please with your doctor, good luck with surgery.
Thank you for your excellent question. Your surgeon's office should supply you with a lengthy list of medications, herbals, and supplements that should be stopped prior to surgery so be sure to reach out to their office to ensure you stop any on that list. That said most of the ones you listed would not need to be discontinued prior to surgery. Hope that this helps.
Dear Ms. Keli_yilybarbie,Thank you for your question. Here is my advice:1)Healthy diet and moderate excercise.2)Start a daily standard balanced Vitamin (No Mega E)3)No herbs, supplements, or additives (can alter your recovery, healing and anesthesia)4)No aspirin, mega-3, large doses of Vit. E or fish oil, or NSAIDS (Motrin, Aleve, Advil, ibuprofen, etc) 2-4 weeks prior to surgery (can alter your blood clotting).Use only Tylenol for pain relief 5)You are taking supplemental female hormones (even bio identical) or hormonal birth control stop 2-4 weeks prior to susurgery (can increase risk of blood clots).5)Stop smoking 4 weeks before and after wards (can interfere with wound healing).I trust you have chosen a Plastic Surgeon who is experienced and Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. In addition ideally a members of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (denoting by membership as having met additional criteria and a focus on Cosmetic Plastic Surgery).I wish you my best and success,R. You should discuss what medications, supplements, andvitamins you are taking, both prescription and over the counter, with yourplastic surgeon and have him or her decide what you should and should not betaking. Your surgeon should be certified by the American Board of PlasticSurgery and ideally a member of the American Society for Aesthetic PlasticSurgery (ASAPS). Robert Singer, MD FACSLa Jolla, California
Hello dear, thanks for your post.Your surgeon may want you to stop taking anti-inflammatory medications also known as NSAIDS (Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Aleve, Advil, etc.) four days before surgery. Medications such as Celebrex may be continued until the day before surgery. For your safety, herbal medicines should be stopped one week before surgery. These may interact with anesthesia or lead to increased bleeding.Diabetic patients will receive individual instructions regarding oral diabetic medications and insulin during their Anesthesia Clinic visit. All of your medications and instructions will be reviewed at your surgeon and/or anesthesiologist visit. Something that is good to remind is to have a closely communication with your PS and talk about your concerns. Good luck :)
Thank you for your question. Most surgeons recommend you stop all vitamins and supplements 1-2 weeks before surgery to avoid any interactions with peri-operative medications or bleeding problems. While your supplements do not seem to be a major issue, it is best to go over the entire list with your surgeon or anesthesiologist. Sometimes patients do not know exactly what is contained in some nutritional supplements or neglect to share that information with their doctor. It can be important.
