I’ve never had cosmetic surgery I’m in generally good health and mostly okay with getting older but my family is predisposed to turkey neck and at 50 I can see that I’ve inherited that wonderful trait. I’m very interested in a neck lift and am starting the process of researching doctors. I’m wondering if there’s a difference in the specialist surgeons - plastic vs oral maxillofacial.
Answer: Neither speciality gets significant exposure to facelifting training. Of the two specialities, it is much more likely that the plastic surgeon has slightly more formal training in facelifting than the oral maxillofacial surgeon. Good people are where you find them. Having said that, there are individuals who after their primary residency go on to do a fellowship in aesthetic surgery. These individuals are likely to have much more training specifically in facelift. Otolaryngologists who go on to do a fellowship in facial plastic surgery. These individuals also get significant training in aesthetic facial plastic surgery including facelifting. None of these training programs guarantee that the surgeon you are seeing will be right for you. Study their websites, read their reviews, speak to patients who have had surgery with them. Check with your state's medical board to determine if the surgeon has any disciplinary actions against them. Google them to determine if they are involved in significant litigation or have a criminal background. Once you have done your homework, it is easier to make the right decision.

Answer: Best Surgeon for a Necklift? There are many different surgical specialties that perform cosmetic facial procedures. Most importantly, you want to make sure that the procedure you are seeking is one of the surgeon's specialities. For facial plastic surgery, physicians specialize in surgical procedures of the face and neck. To become a facial plastic surgeon there is a 5 year residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery performing surgery exclusively on the face and neck. Following completion of residency there is a 1 year fellowship for additional specialized training in aesthetic procedures. Surgeons in other fields can also be trained in facelifts and well.

Answer: Board certified plastic surgeon There is no doubt that board certified plastic surgeons in general have better training than oral surgeons when it comes to facial aesthetic surgery. However, in your case I would suggest to look for someone with proven experience in face/neck lift. Review of available website cases and reviews may help. Traveling to such an expert may be acceptable solution. Good luck.

Answer: Facial plastic surgeon to perform a neck lift A full set of facial and neck photographs are required to make a determination about how best to proceed. In our practice, I necklift alone only removes fat deposits above and below the platysma muscle which also includes a platysma-plasty. If your skin tone is quite loose, a full lower face and neck lift will be required to tighten loose and inelastic facial and neck skin.
