I'm having a BBL with 360 lipo in about a month and I'm travelling out of state alone. I'm wondering how long is recommend for me to have someone with me? Maybe like a CNA or RN.
Answer: Postoperative protocol Dear Sontlesp, every plastic surgeon has his own postoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. Most will recommend you to have someone with you in order to help you. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon. Answer: Do I need someone with me after a BBL? Hello, thank you for your question. The first 24 hours after your surgery can be the most challenging, since you may still be in pain, recovering from the effects of anesthesia, require mobility assistance, or in need of extra support with changing bandages, and grooming. You can arrange for an LVN or CNA to check on you after the first 24 hours should you need help physically or emotionally. You must be discharged from our fully accredited surgery center to an adult who will be responsible for your care the first 24 hours.

Answer: After care I don’t recommend traveling for elective surgical procedures. There are certainly times when there are no local providers who have the skills or experience necessary. Patients afternoon do not appreciate the importance of in person consultations, that complications actually do happen, how many important questions people have after surgery or end up needing revision procedures. Please be prepared to travel for your postop care as well. Your provider should’ve gone over aftercare instructions with you. If he didn’t why don’t you contact him and ask what their protocol is. We do not recommend patients stay alone after surgical procedures. Recovering alone after general anesthesia in a hotel room and a big surgical procedure is not a good idea. Most plastic surgeons can make arrangements for this. It should be discussed during the consultation. The fact that this was not addressed is a bit of a red flag. Each provider has their own protocol for after surgery and I recommend you follow your providers protocol. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
