When the bowl, or concha, of the ear is deep, that is one of the main reasons why somebody’s ear can protrude too far from the head. Suture Otoplasty techniques work very well for setting back the ear, and making it less prominent and less distracting. I hope this helps! Sincerely, Dr. Joseph
On first glance, it does appear that the bump on the rim of your ear is Darwin’s Tubercle. Its formation, as well as the projection of your ears, are generally present at birth. Projection can be reduced with setback otoplasty.
Prominent ears are commonly caused by a lack of the anti helical fold of the ear where it is flattened instead. Enlargement of the conchal/bowl of the ear is the other main cause. You do have a Darwin tubercle, but it is likely better to correct the prominence by folding the ear rather than trying to remove the tubercle, but it can be done. I suggest you see a facial plastic surgeon like myself who can assess your ears and advise you accordingly.

In general, suture otoplasty surgery is reserved for moving somebody's ear that sticks out too far, closer to their head. The top of your helix appears to be short on both sides, however, the architecture appears okay. An examination would be necessary, however, I'm afraid that there may be no...
