My ears have been this shape since birth. They are a huge insecurity of mine and sometimes even hurt to the touch. I'm 22 and a female. I’ve researched congenital otoplasty and want to know if this could be something in my future

Answer: Shape of ear cartilage In-person evaluation will determine the findings more definitively. It appears from the photo that the Left ear cartilage (a part called the helical rim) has misshapen cartilage. If the cartilage is thick, then some can be removed to create a more natural shape (to better define the scaphoid fossa). If the cartilage is thin and is bent forward, then it will depend on the skin (best determined in-person). For the Right ear, it appears that the helix is a bit flattened. It is reasonable to use filler, platelet rich fibrin, or sculptra to thicken the soft tissue and give it some volume. In-person evaluation will also help determine if there is excess protrusion of the ears.
