Dental work after cheek fillers: I just had my cheek fillers with Voluma yesterday.

Question

I’m scheduled to start my porcelain veneer work in 2 weeks which will require me to stretch my mouth open (which will also stretch my cheeks) for a full 4 hours. Will this process affect my cheek fillers?

If you had Voluma injected, or any of the Vycross fillers from Allergan, I would suggest waiting at least 3 months before receiving dental work. Nodules after Voluma, Volbella and Vollure have been reported. These reactions have been reported months after injection and sometimes have been associated with recent dental work. For this reason, I would recommend to my patients that they wait a few months before getting any dental work done if they received any of these fillers. While this may seem very conservative, I have seen enough side effects with these particular fillers to recommend a good deal of caution when getting dental work done post-injection. I hope this helps.

I recommend waiting two weeks after injecting your cheeks with either Voluma or Radiesse. It takes time for the fillers to settle and for swelling and bruising to go away.

Thank you for your question.  My professional opinion is that it is safe to have dental work done over two weeks after Voluma to the cheeks.  However, every patient is different, so it is best to check with your specific injector and dentist before making your final decision.
