On my left flank I felt maybe like a knot under the skin I have been trying to rub it out. But it is very sensitive to touch almost a burning sensation. There is no skin discoloration or anything you can see extra orally. I am just wondering if it will resolve on it's own or if I should be concerned
Answer: Painful bump Thank you for your question. It could be a bit of scar tissue that has built up. You can possibly try some lymphatic massage to help break it down. Each Surgeon will have their own protocol on what to do in these situations. Sometimes by injecting cortisone into the area it can help break it down. I would suggest speaking with your Surgeon and following their recommendation. Best of luck to you.

Answer: Painful Knot after Liposuction Thank you for your question regarding a painful knot 6 months after liposuction. This painful knot is uncommon. It sounds like hypertrophic or keloid scarring. I understand that the knot is filled underneath the skin, but it sounds like excessive scarring to me. I would suggest you follow up with your plastic surgeon; in terms of treatment, there are multiple modalities. Treatment for liposuction areas of hypertrophic scarring includes soft tissue massage, deep tissue massage, vibration massage injection of steroid, 5fu, microneedling, and even surgical scar disruption. All of these modalities need to be explored with your plastic surgeon. I hope this helps answer your question. Sincerely, Dr. Katzen. Answer: Liposuction Knot Hi cjade0803, Your body goes through many changes after liposuction. The healing process continues well over a year after your procedure. Chronic pain can be a side effect of liposuction but a proper diagnosis of the knot you feel under your skin can only be done by seeing your prior surgeon or another board certified plastic surgeon. Oftentimes scar tissue forms after liposuction and this is treated with manual massages indefinitely. Scar tissue is often responsive to frequent massage therapy. Make sure you see a licensed provider for a formal evaluation and possible diagnosis. Best of luck in your journey. Dr. Andre P. MarshallDouble Board Certified Plastic SurgeonBeverly Hills, CA 90210
