Went for pre-ops for my mommy makeover and had an EKG with results showing borderline LAFB is it advisable to still have surgery? I have had recently (3 months ago) been taken off high blood pressure meds be cuz of weight loss my look pressure went down. When I visit the dr. It was 167/97 always rises at any dr visit. Is the EKG result a concern for surgery?
Answer: Boderline EKG, OK for Surgery? This will be something for your surgeon and anesthesiologist to determine. They may want you to get clearance from a cardiologist. It is not unusual for patients to get an elevated blood pressure reading when going to see a doctor, it is referred to as "white coat syndrome." Be sure to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon. Good luck.

Answer: 52 F having mommy makeover.: Pre-op EKG showing borderline results. Is surgery still ok? The plastic surgeon who will be performing the surgery will determine required lab work. My patients are cleared for surgery by their PCP and relevant specialists based upon age, current medical problems, and personal preference to some extent. Answer: Abnormal EKG prior to mommy makeover Hello and thanks for your questions. In short, in my practice I would require that you must seek out cardiac clearance prior to this type of procedure. You should seek the advice of your primary care physician as to whether they will be able to clear you and whether any further testing might be required (stress test, etc).Best wishes!Daniel Brown, MD, FACSBoard Certified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic SurgeonsMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeonsCastle Connolly Top DocReal Self Top 500

Answer: Abnormal EKG and Surgery I would definitely look into your EKG further, meaning I would want you to see a cardiologist and be evaluated by an expert. LAFB means there is abnormality in the electrical system of your heart and the way the electrical pathways run which could be an issue while you are under surgery. I would not take a chance, neither should your surgeon. See a cardiologist and find out what the issue is and what can be done.Hope that helps.
