If you are referring to your hemoglobin, then 11 should be fine. Normal blood loss for a good surgeon performing an abdominoplasty is just a few cc's (less than an ounce). Make she your are going to an experienced surgeon and all should be great.
Thanks for your inquiry, your iron level can be 11 which is low, or your hemoglobin level more likely is 11 which is slightly low. Many factors determine the amount of blood loss in any given surgery, please ask your surgeon how much blood loss he/she anticipates.
I am assuming that you are referring to your Hemoglobin level. The normal Hemoglobin is usually between 12 and 15. You are slightly below the normal level. Have an evaluation by your medical physician to assess the cause of your Hemoglobin. If the tummy tuck is being performed alone with no additional procedures you should be fine. Get clearance from you medical physician regarding your blood work prior to surgery.
Thank you for your question. It is essential to make pre-op lab work and evaluation, they should be in optimal ranges, that allows us to make a safe procedure. Finally, I recommend you to be treated by board certified plastic surgeon with experience in this procedure, to get the best desired results.Respectfully,Dr. Emmanuel Mallol Cotes.-
Make sure that your PS knows the results of your lab tests. Most PSs will want to see a hemoglobin of 12. The HgB does not have to be artificially elevated for surgery. TT can be performed for most individuals with a hemoglobin above 10 or 11.Your surgeon or your PCP should be able to recommend an appropriate regimen based upon the cause of your anemia. Typically iron supplements, and Vitamin C are recommended as well as a diet rich in dark leafy veggies, liver, lentils, almonds, dried apricots, beets, and other high iron content foodsHave your labs repeated a few days before your scheduled surgery. If they remain low, ask your PS if he recommends that you postpone your TT until they reach a satisfactory level. Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA
Lab values should be reviewed by your surgeon who will make the decision whether or not it is safe to proceed with surgery. Sometimes a request is made to repeat the test to ensure that the result wasn't an anomaly. If you are referring to your hemoglobin level you are only slightly low so you will likely be fine to proceed, but your surgeon will advise you of the final decision.
I assume you are speaking of your hemoglobin levels, and this indicates that you have mild anemia. This should not prevent you from having a tummy tuck. I suggest finding a plastic surgeon that uses a Bovie, which both cuts and simultaneously coagulates small blood vessels, for all of the dissecting to prevent much blood loss. Done with skill, the blood loss in negligible. I suggest also that you have the drainless (no drain) TT to take advantage of the faster recovery time, less pain, lower complication rate, and you won't have the dreaded drains for 5-10 days or more. The drainless TT does require Progressive Tension Sutures, so one can't simply elect to eliminate the drains without the knowledge of the special technique.Your Internist or gynecologist should place you on iron supplements to build up your hemoglobin.Thank you for your question, and good luck.
Thank you for the question. Much will depend on factors such as how low your hemoglobin is, what the cause of the anemia is, and exactly what procedure (and how much anticipated blood loss) is planned. For example, a patient who is undergoing a significant amount of liposuction surgery ( along with the tummy tuck procedure) will experience a greater blood loss compared to a patient who undergoes tummy tuck surgery without liposuction.Good medical practice would dictate that you follow-up with your primary care physician or internist for evaluation; he/she will be able to determine the cause of any anemia and recommend treatment based on diagnosis. Best wishes for a safe procedure and an outcome that you will be pleased with as well.
yes a tummy tuck can be done st 12. The bigger question is why is it low?Anemia causes should be evaluated first.
Thanks for your question, aidaic3.One of the basic requirements in getting any plastic surgery is that you should be in an overall good state of health before proceeding. A hemoglobin level of 11 means you’re a little below the normal range, but you can still push through with your surgery if you can increase and stabilize your iron levels.I suggest that you go to your licensed physician so that you’ll be prescribed with iron supplements to increase your hemoglobin level. Once it’s stable and your doctor issues you a medical clearance, find a reputable and board-certified plastic surgeon to consult about your tummy tuck.Remember, your health comes first.Best of luck!
