Am I to young to get a boob job at 19?

Question

Having a hyperthyroid my weight ranges from 85-97. I never gain weight! I hate it. I look like a toothpick and my breast are pretty much just nipples. I have no confidence in myself. Am I to young to have this done, who would be the best doctor for me that would listen and help fit my breast with my body, and what would the payments be like?

Hi and thanks for your question. You are not too young for a breast augmentation. This procedure can enhance a woman's self-esteem like not other. The current guidelines are that you have to be the age of 22 or older to get silicone implants but there are exceptions to these guidelines.Because you are so thin the chances of rippling or wrinkling of the implant following your surgery with saline implants will be very high and IMHO unacceptable. The judicious use of appropriate size implants for your body type would be indicated.I encourage you to look up the surgeon you eventually select and make sure they have years of experience in performing cosmetic breast surgery and are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Furthermore, request to see before and after photos of previous patients by that doctor....not a clinic or surgery center. Do your homework......research and verify the doctor's credentials. Have they had problems with the Board of Medicine, disciplinary or otherwise. Any law suits? How about the center, clinic or facility? Are they accredited by a national organization or do they just have State approval. Understand that at the current time, there are three nationally recognized organizations responsible for the highest levels of patient safety, AAAASF, AAACH and JCHO. You owe it to yourself to position yourself for the best possible results but under the most stringent safety regulations, If you have kids, even more so.How about anesthesia? Will you have a medical doctor certified by the American Board of Anesthsiology or a certified nurse anesthetist (CRNA)? Understand that there is no substitute for research. Cosmetic surgery, no matter how simple it may be to the patients, are invasive procedures and as such carry certain risks and complications.We are located in the "land of breast implants" Miami, Florida. A breast augmentation will run in the neighborhood of $3600 to $4600. Hello!  Thank you for your question. Breast augmentation is a procedure 
often sought by women to increase 
size, add upper pole fullness and projection along with improve shape 
and symmetry of her breasts.  Women who have the breast augmentation 
done report increased self-confidence, self-esteem, and more comfortable
 with her body. In fact, it has been the most popular procedure in 
plastic surgery in the US for the past few years.  Many surgeons use 18 
years of age as the standard for when to offer the breast augmentation 
procedure to women.  Maturity and the ability to make an educated 
decision for yourself of whether this procedure is the right one for you
 as well as factors regarding implant choice, size, incision placement, 
position of the implant, other adjunct procedures, etc are major 
factors.  Having the maturity to understand all of the risks and 
benefits of the surgical procedure is also mandatory - thus, most are 
readily able to comprehend this at that age.  23 years of age is the FDA
 guideline for utilization of silicone implants.  Good 
communication between you and your surgeon of 
your expectations is warranted - choosing your surgeon wisely is the 
first step.   Consult with a board certified plastic surgeon well-versed
 in this procedure.  Research your surgeon's education, training, as 
well as ability to perform this procedure.  See postoperative 
photographs and most importantly choose the one who you feel most 
comfortable with and competent to meet your expectations.  Discussion of
 your wishes and having an honest and open 
dialog of your procedure is mandatory (e.g, implant type, incision, 
placement, lift, etc).  I have found that photographs brought by the 
patient is helpful to get a visualization of the appearance you wish for
 in terms of size, shape, fullness, etc.  In addition, your surgeon's 
pre and postoperative photographs should demonstrate a realistic goal 
for you.  Once this has been accomplished, allow your surgeon to utilize
 his/her best medical judgment during the procedure to finesse the best 
possible result for you after preoperative biodimensional planning and

A breast augmentation should be just fine for you, but you can only get saline implants.  You can wait until you're 22 to get silicone or get them switched out at that time if you'd like.

I cannot comment on what  other surgeons charge for breast augmentation. I would definitely make sure that your stable with your hyperthyroidism. You definitely need a personal consultation to determine size, style and placement of your implants.

The short answer is "No".  In respect to age, as long as you are over 18 years of age it is OK to go forward with a breast augmentation.  Saline implants are all that is allowed for patients under 22 years old.  For those 22 and up they can choose between silicone and saline.  If you are concerned about your chest size and would like to feel better about your shape it is fine to pursue breast augmentation.  Consult with a plastic surgeon board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.  In general payments are made prior to the procedure but there is financing available through a variety of lenders.  Check with your surgeon about the options they offer.  Best of luck.  It sounds like the surgery could be a very positive experience for you.

No, you are not too young to have breast augmentation surgery, but from your description it sounds as though there would be a huge cosmetic advantage to using silicone gel implants in your thin-frammed body. For this you need to be 22 years old in the U.S. In my opinion, worth waiting for.

At the age of 19, you are of age to consider breast augmentation.  Your condition should not preclude you from having surgery and judging by the description of your anatomy, you may be an ideal candidate for an anatomical implant.  These are implants recently approved by the FDA in the last year and run a little more expensive.  The only issue with this type of implant is that it is silicone and you need to be at least 22yrs of age.  There are exceptions which would meet to be discussed at the time of consultation.

Your age is appropriate for considering breast augmentation. Your thyroid issue is not likely to prevent you from having surgery but of course you should discuss this with your primary physician. As far as finding a surgeon, The American Board of Plastic Surgery is an excellent place to start  your search. Finding a board certified plastic surgeon to assist you will be worth it. Of course the cost is something you would have to get from the plastic surgeon of your choice. The range is likely to be from $4,500-$7,000 depending on your community and implant considerations. Many plastic surgeons offer payment plans through Care Credit or Alphaeon Credit.
