What are the different shapes of Breast Implants?

Breast implants can be round or tear-drop (anatomic). All come in different projections and volumes. Find a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and you can see all these shapes during your consultation.

There are tw: round and anatomical (or "teardrop") shaped. Round implants have a more circular shape and anatomical are in the shape of a teardrop. 

Implants either are round or oval.  This refers to the base of the implant, ie what it looks like from the front.  Implants can also be round or tear drop shaped.  This refers to what the implant looks like from the side.  Within these shapes, implants can have low projection, moderate projection or high projection, ie how far forward the implant projects, to satisfy patients wishes for more or less projection of their breasts.  The implants also come with smooth walls or textured walls.  With so many options, I urge you to have a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss this in detail.

The base or footprint of the implant can be either round or elliptical.  The profile of the implant can have the point of maximum projection in the center of the implant or toward the bottom of the implant (giving more volume at the bottom of the implant).  Then all of these come in different projections.  A board certified plastic surgeon (member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons) can discuss this with you in detail and how the implant shapes would benefit you, at your consultation.

There are round implants and teardrop shaped implants.  Then the shapes can change with profiles- basically low, medium, and high.

There are many different varieties of shape of breast implants.  The most commonly used are round breast implants which are designed to mimic the natural shape of the human female breast.  For patients who have narrow chest or  patients who want more forward projection of the breast high profile and ultra high profile breast implant shapes are available.  High profile breast implants have a narrower base and a higher implant height.There are also teardrop shaped breast implants which are typically textured meaning they have a rough surface are a bit thicker  and holder shape more rigidly.New or mammary shaped breast implants have significantly more volume at the bottom edge of the implant  and are designed to cause more fullness of the breast beneath the nipple areola.Please consult a board certified plastic surgeon for a formal consultation, examination and recommendation.  Choosing the shape of your breast implants is a very complex decision making process  and requires the assistance of your plastic surgeon.
