Is it dangerous to be under anesthesia for 2 hours? Can you do a very small amount liposuction at the same time as a boob job?

Im planning on getting my breast enhanced and putting in allergan (?)/ gummy bears, I also want to have a liposuction underneath my chin. I'm not overweight (bmi 22.5). The plastic surgeon said we can do it at separate times or at the same time. He said it will take 1 hour per surgery. So total time of anaesthesia would be 2 hours, Is this dangerous? Im 26 years and have OK health except IGA deficiency. is it safe to do a "boob job" and a little liposuction at the same thing?

There is nothing inherently dangerous about being under anesthesia for two hours.  It is safe to have liposuction and breast augmentation at the same time.

Thank you for your question.  In short, no, 2 hours of anesthesia is very short in the big picture of surgical procedures.  General anesthesia is very safe and this is not an excessive amount of time by any means. Best of luck

2 hours of general anesthesia in a healthy person is not dangerous.  We combine procedures like this often.  If you are concered about anesthesia, I would contact the surgical facility and inquire about the credentials of the anesthesiologist.

Dear ReaderYou are young and healthy, so undergoing a 2 hr general anesthetic is not high risk in my opinion.  Certainly, where you have your procedure done is important.  I prefer to perform all of my procedures in a certified ambulatory surgery center with anesthesia delivered by a CRNA or Anesthesiologist. In my practice, this combination would be very reasonable for the OR time as well as the recovery.  Talk to your surgeon, but combining these procedures would allow you to recover from both and lessen the total downtime.  Good luck and take care.

Typically, plastic surgeons try to limit surgeries to 6 hours or less.  If you are healthy then a 2 hour surgery is reasonable. If you have further concerns consult with your plastic surgeon.

It is absolutely safe to do liposuction at the same time as a breast augment. This is a very common combination and having 2 hours of anaesthesia is probably less risky than two separate anaesthetics. It also means less overall recovery time since you are able to do it all at once. Best of Luck!

When I meet with my patients prior to surgery we discussed the details of the procedure and many times the patients will ask for another surgery to be done at the same time. 2 hours of anesthesia is safe.  There are many different types of anesthesia, so make sure you know what type you will be getting.  Liposuction and increase the risk for blood clots in the legs that can break off and go to the lungs.  This is important because some studies suggest that combining it with other procedures can increase this risk.  Having said that, I don't think many plastic surgeons would believe that a breast augmentation and limited amount of liposuction that will take only two hours would be dangerous.Good luck!

Anaesthesia is very safe when done in a certified center and with a board certified anaesthesiologist. 2hr is actually a relatively short time to be under anaesthesia. You are young and healthy and plastic surgery procedures do not go into any body cavities or near any major organs or blood vessels and, therefore, are safer in general. There are always risks to consider and discuss your specific situation with your surgeon. I think most would agree that you can combine your breast implant surgery with a small area of liposuction.
