I appreciate your question. Typically, my guideline is, the first week is the hardest. By the second week you feel better, at four weeks you feel 100% and at six weeks you can go back to complete normal routines and exercising. Four days after surgery, I would be careful as you are still at risk for bleeding. If you are taking any pain medication, I would not drink alcohol. With my 'Schwartz Rapid Recuperation' recovery, most of my patients out to dinner the following evening. The best way to assess and give true advice would be an in-person exam. Please see a board-certified plastic surgeon that specializes in aesthetic plastic surgery. Best of luck! Dr. Schwartz Board Certified Plastic Surgeon #RealSelf100Surgeon #RealSelfCORESurgeon
What you are describing is no different from a standard breast augmentation. It has been used as marketing to call it a 24 hour Breast augmentation to make it sinus more appealing to most patients. The vast majority of my patients feel reasonably well after the first day, so I guess I could claim the same thing.
Hello,Please see my answer to another of your questions as well.Without a doubt, there has been a growth of marketing terms like 24 hour, flash, or rapid recovery breast augmentation. There has been plenty of hype about it, but many surgeons are still dubious. Dr. Tebbits was received poorly by the majority of plastic surgeons when his two part article titled '24 Hour Recovery after Breast Augmentation' was published in PRS in 2001, and for some surgeons there is still little belief there can be such a difference in recovery. 'Recovery' does not imply complete healing, only a return to normal daily activities. I am an advocate of these techniques, and believe all breast surgeons should adhere to this proven formula (please refer to my answer in your other post). Fortunately, entities like the Allergan Academy is helping surgeons do a better breast augmentation. There are no secrets, and the information has been widely available for 13 years for all to use for the sake of their patients. It's just a matter of adopting these well established techniques by the majority of surgeons that still needs to occur.Best of luck!
Recovery will take 4 weeks in most cases, though many patients can return to work in a few days and, in some cases, the next day.Kenneth Hughes, MDLos Angeles, CA
I have found that the level of discomfort depends on the size of the implant and whether there have been previous pregnancies with the ensuing engorgement. generally I say for desk jobs, if the surgery is Thursday Friday return to work Monday Tuesday. the 24 hrs spiel was used for a while by one of my colleagues and I never really noticed any diference. good luck
Yes; less cutting means less bleeding, and less bleeding means less chance of capsular contracture. However, there is no such thing as a one size fits all procedure. The amount of cutting will depend on the shape of the breast, the insertion of the pectoralis major muscle, and how tightly the muscle is attached to the chest wall or rib cage. Capsular contracture rates for implants placed under the muscle are extremely low in any case. I would be very leery of any doctor who is advertising a "new" and better procedure. Do your homework and make sure you are seeing a board certified plastic surgeon.Good Luck
Recovery varies a lot from one patient to the next. I do notthink most patients feel “fully recovered” after just 24 hours, although mayfeel pretty good. Some plastic surgeons make claims that are unfounded, and thismay be one of them. One of the factors contributing to capsular contracture isblood in the pocket around the implant, so surgeons should try to controlbleeding as much as possible. Some surgeons prefer blunt dissection over “cutting”to reduce bleeding. The claim of a 1.5% of contracture does mean much unless weknow how long and how many patients have been followed. Current studies suggestthat at the end of 10 years the cumulative contracture rate is about 10%.
Claiming a 24 hour recovery is more a marketing tool than a guarantee. When appropriate releases of tissue are not performed to hasten recovery, you really have not done the best operation and have certainly done the patient no favors. Good control of bleeding is necessary for any surgery.
Twenty-four hour recovery is a marketing tool. Breast augmentation, however it is done, is still surgery. Your body needs time to heal. You will not be recovered at 24 hours.
Bleeding after breast augmentation certainly increases the capsular contraction rate but it is difficult to quantify "less bleeding" and direct lowering of capsular contraction rate. 24 hour recovery is mostly marketing but if the dissection is done gently with pin-point electrocautery and no blunt dissection the recovery is certainly quicker.
This is quite common and is not a problem. if the sutures start to stick through the skin, then you can just cut them or leave them and they will fall out on their own. it is uncommon for them to get infected so just because there is some redness, does not mean that it is infected. if you are...
CC rates are variable and dependent on technique (above or below the muscle, through the nipple or armpit vs under the fold) and type of implant. In studies, the rates were over 20%with one brand of implant and even higher when placed above the muscle and done through a nipple incision. The good...
Your muscles should relax over time. Discuss your healing with your surgeon. He may want you to go bra less for a few weeks. If the breast implants to not settle into the pocket, a revision may be needed. Best wishes!
