Thank you for your question. Yes it is safe to do both procedures at the same time. The risk of capsular contracture should not increase if your plastic surgeon follows the standard sterile technique for implant placement. We often combine other procedures with breast augmentation and follow all the needed steps to keep all surgical procedures as sterile as possible. Hope this helps! Take care,Dr Miotto
Dear Jying2, Thank you for your question. I hope you are keeping well during this COVID-19 period. Combining surgeries certainly is advantages as you can save on the downtime, as well as the facility charges. In your scenario, the surgical sites are separate and hence they should not affect one another, as long as due care is taken to maintain surgical sterility. The breast augmentation should be performed first. At my practice, we routinely use nipple shields and a no-touch technique for implant insertion to ensure the best possibility sterility during the insertion of the implant. Once the incisions for the augmentation are well sutured and dressed, the buccal fat removal can then be done. The buccal fat removal is a very quick procedure with minimal blood loss so it should not add much time to the overall surgery. Pre-operative antibiotics and post-operative antibiotics will be given as well.Hope this helps in your planning. All the best for your journey!
Thank you for your question, it is not uncommon to do multiple procedures at the same time. If you are already under anesthesia, I would recommend doing both on the same day so that you have only one recovery. Typically the implants will be placed first before any additional procedures are performed. There is no hard evidence that facial surgeries increase any risk for capsular contracture. You will be given IV antibiotics during surgery and most likely oral antibiotics afterwards to reduce the risk of infection. Best wishes,Dr. Christine Rodgers
Hello, thank you for your question. The best thing to do is to ask your PS how he/she plans to keep the most sterility during your augmentation. For instance, if the augmentation is performed first and the buccal fat removal only after the augmentation is complete and dressed, this is likely okay. Best of luck.
I recommend an in person evaluation by a plastic surgeon to be measured and discuss your goals. After I measure and discuss goals with my patients, we then look at pictures of former patients with similar measurements with different size and style breast implants. My patients tell me that this process is very helpful in determining what size breast implant is right for them. They also get to see what they would look like when the implants have fully dropped and fluffed and in clothes. You get to see actual results and the surgeon's experience and not a virtual idea of what can be achieved.Dr. Ted Eisenberg, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and Author RealSelf Distinguished Hall of Fame Inductee
The procedures can be done at the same time. The breast implants should be done first to avoid contamination from the mouth to the breasts.
I appreciate your concern, however it is not unreasonable to perform both procedures simultaneously, as long as strict precautions are taken. Since buccal fat pad removal involves incisions inside the mouth, and this is not a sterile procedure, the breast augmentation should be performed first and breasts covered with sterile dressings. Then, the fat pad removal can be performed without contaminating the breasts. Consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon in your area to confirm my advice. Good luck.
Dear jying2,I understand your concern. It is best however that you consult with a board certified plastic surgeon to determine whether you can have several aesthetic surgeries in one session, as this would depend on various factors including but not limited to your general health condition, the type of anesthesia that will be used, and the type of surgeries that will be performed among others.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
Hello and thanks for sharing this excellent question on this platform. I would very strongly and passionately advise against this. You could consider having buccal fat removal done under local anaesthesia multiple weeks prior to your breast surgery but not during or anytime close to this breast procedure! After breast implant surgery you should bear in mind that when undergoing any intra-oral or dental surgery you will need to be put on prophylactic antibiotics as per step 14 of the 14-point plan.Take care & all the best
Hi jying2,Yes, it is okay to do both at the same time, and it should not increase your risk of getting a capsular contracture (as long as you don't get an infection). I've done the combination myself previously, and the results turned out well. Blessings on your journey!

If you proceed with augmentation alone you will essentially have a larger version of your current look. Implants would give you enhanced shape, including more upper pole fullness. A lift would raise the position of the nipple for a perkier look. If you elect to forgo the lift you can return...
